Welcome to the website of the Catholic parish community of Our Lady and St. Anne, Caversham, Reading.
Caversham is a large residential area on the north side of the town of Reading , but separated from the rest of the town by the River Thames. The river is also the boundary between the dioceses of Birmingham and Portsmouth, so Caversham is the southernmost parish of the Archdiocese of Birmingham, a hundred miles from its cathedral!
Our parish is blessed with the beautiful church of Our Lady and St. Anne, now 100 years old, with presbytery attached; the Catholic primary school of St. Anne; a parish hall and meeting rooms; the convent of the Visitation sisters; and most recently, with the extension to the church, built in 2003, a large narthex and the Cenacle meeting and social room.
The parish has a long tradition of faith, worship, prayer and Christian service in this area; some families have lived in Caversham for four generations. There is also a steady influx of new parishioners, with the provision of new housing throughout the area and the fact that Caversham is an attractive place to live for those working in the new industries of the Thames Valley or commuting into London.
Ours is a thriving and enthusiastic Catholic community, building up the life of faith of its members, sharing the Spirit of Jesus Christ in prayer, liturgy, formation and witness in the community. The parish is a member of Churches Together in Caversham, so we frequently join with our Christian brothers and sisters of other traditions for prayer, education and service.
